As the years go by and technology advances, LASIK surgery is becoming an extremely effective alternative to contact lenses and glasses. At the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley, we are proud to be a leader of not only LASIK in the Bay Area, but a leader in LASIK technology and procedures worldwide.

LASIK surgery does not treat all causes of vision loss, however, it does help correct disorders that are considered to be refractive disorders. These disorders include nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatisms, and we are equipped to handle all of these problems quickly and effectively. These refractive disorders are caused by an imperfection in the way the eye moves information through for processing, and using LASIK technology, our experienced surgeons can perform the proper corrective procedures to make your refractive disorder a thing of the past.

Many people are familiar with LASIK surgery, but they don’t always understand how or why it works. We believe that it is important to be well-informed and knowledgeable about the surgery before deciding whether or not it is right for you, and we are always available to answer your questions and respond to your concerns.

Basically, the cornea is the front surface of the eye. Behind the cornea is the lens of the eye, and the cornea helps the lens inside the eye focus light and visual information to the back of the eye to the retina. For those who have great vision, this system of structures line up exactly and the image focuses clearly. However, as we age, this lens may become less flexible and less able to assist the cornea in directing the image and light to the retina. This type of visual change may be treated with Lasik as well. For this type of procedure, the cornea is reshaped to better assist the lack of flexibility of the lens. For the type of problems that LASIK treats, these structures are not lined up completely straight. LASIK surgery uses a laser to reshape the cornea to help line up the structures better. In many cases, this can be completed rather easily. Other times, it may take an extra procedure to completely accomplish this.

The majority of the time, corrective lenses are not necessary after LASIK surgery. Most people that have been through the LASIK procedure do not have to wear glasses or contact lenses after the surgery.

If you’re ready to stop wearing your glasses or contact lenses, contact us today! As one of the leaders in LASIK in the Bay Area, you can be confident that you’re in good hands at the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley.
